VEREENIGING MEET DRAWS MASSIVE ENTRY

150 KARTS FOR VEREENIGING!

The massive entry of 150 karts for this Saturday’s Northern Regions meeting at Vereeniging will make it the biggest karting event of the year to date.

A number of Natal and Cape drivers are making the trip to the challenging Vaal circuit in preparation for the up-coming Nationals in Cape Town in September, while Gauteng-based drivers will be fighting it out for regional titles in no less than 10 classes.

Topping the bill will be the SA National championship classes for 100 cc Supers and 125 GP gearbox karts. In Supers Robert Briggs has a comfortable 64 point lead over nearest rival Mike van Niekerk, while in 125 GPs Leeroy Poulter looks similarly strong, 32 points ahead of Jimmy Auby, with Mark Auby a few points back in third.

The meeting will also see a full entry of Rotax Max Challenge machines, this being the fifth round of the Northern Regions Max Challenge. Mark Cronje is the man to beat in Gauteng at the moment, 30 points clear of Rob Kellock, with Jennifer Murray in third, just one point shy of Kellock.

Strengthening the female drivers’ claim to supremacy in this male-orientated sport is Fabienne Lanz, who currently leads the 100 cc Stock class from Jonathan Vilaca.

Interest in the younger classes will centre on the Williams duo in GP Juniors, where Trent Williams leads the championship from Caleb Williams, with Henry Steel a few points back in third position.

The Rotax classes will also cater for the “toppie” brigade, with the running of the 172 kg class, where Johan Muller is currently the big boy to beat.
