ROTAX Max Challenge Series has National Championship status for 2004

The 2004 ROTAX Max Challenge Series regulations will be published later this week. Here are a few news worthy items in the mean time. 

The following ROTAX Max classes will have National Championship status:
  • Mini Max
  • Junior Max
  • Max Challenge
  • Max 172 Master 

Several South African drivers in the Max classes will qualify to participate in the World Finals in Lanzarote, Canary Islands January 2005 all Expenses paid.

  •  
    • Junior Max – at least one driver.
    • Max Challenge – at least one driver.
    • The new RM1 Challenge – at least one driver
    • Max 172 Masters – one driver over 35 years of age. 

Important changes to the rules for 2004

Ages:
  • Mini Max – open to drivers from the year of the eleventh birthday
  • Junior Max – open to drivers from their thirteenth birthday until the end of the year in which they turn seventeen
  • Max Challenge – open to drivers from their sixteenth birthday
  • Max 172 Masters – open to drivers from the year of their thirty-fifth birthday 
Weights:
  • Max Challenge 165 kg 
Chassis:
  • All current MSA homologated and previously MSA homologated chassis
  • Axles maximum 50 diameter with wall thickness according to CIK regulations. 

New class 

ROTAX RM1
  • Age open to drivers from their sixteenth birthday
  • Weight 175 kg
  • A series will start from the iDube National Qualifying event and will include the balance of the Northern Regions events including the SARMC National Final. 
Supporting class

GP Junior as per MSA Regulations will run at all RMC Regional and National events. Drivers may register and score points as per RMC. The series winner will recieve a floating trophy and a new ROTAX Mini Max engine. Other trophies and prizes will be awarded to at least third place. NB! This is not a South African National Championship. 

Events counting towards the series: 

Regionals

A driver must choose the region in which he/she wishes to score points regionally.  

Points can be scored at the four RMC regional races in each of these regions – Northern Regions (Gauteng), Kwa-Zulu Natal and Western Cape – with a pre-final and final. NB! It is permitted to race outside of this region but no points can be accumulated and regional scoring will exclude participants from outside their designated region. 

National Qualifying Events

There will be one event at iDube (KZN), one event at Killarney (WP) and one event at Vereeniging (Gauteng). All of these events are open to National license holder registered in the RMC series. Drivers domiciled in the specific region may participate in their event on a regional license.  

Each of these events will have two pre-finals and two finals. 

Pre-finals and Finals to be dropped

Drivers will score their best six pre-finals and six best finals from any of the above events ie. it is permitted to drop races not participated in or worst results. NB! It is not permitted to drop races in which the competitor was excluded for cheating or misconduct.  

Points carried to National Final

Best six pre-finals and six finals divided by six is added to points achieved at the SARMC National Final. 

South African ROTAX Max Challenge National Final

This event wil be held on 2/3 October 2004 at Bridgestone Zwartkops International Kart Raceway. There will be two pre-finals and two finals – all to count.  

Bonus Points

One bonus point for each final participated in (regional, national qualifying and SARMC Final) will be added to the total score to determine the winner in each class.
