Steve WICKS and an American journalist, Ken JOHNSON, were lucky to survive a serious car accident on Sunday morning, 19 November 2006 after the ROTAX World Final in Portugal.
Steve has been a motor racing enthusiast all his life and has a particular passion for karting. He has followed the ROTAX MAX Challenge around the world in recent years as well as always covering regional and national kart racing in his SA Racer and other publications.
Steve has made good progress and was released from hospital yesterday (27 November 2006). His son Richard has been with him since Wednesday, 22 November 2006 when the last members of SA Team left Portugal.
Many thanks to Joy and Wally Dolinschek who helped with the red tape and caring for Steve. To Richard and Steve’s many friends and well wishers thanks for your thoughts and support.
Steve will be arriving back in South Africa tomorrow (Wednesday, 29 November 2006) on Iberia Flight number IB6051 at 11h35. It would be nice to see some motorsport enthusiasts there to welcome him back.
