10 REASONS TO RACE IN THE SA ROTAX MAX CHALLENGE SERIES IN 2020

1. COST
- Rotax’s legendary long-life engines – 12-month warrantee
- Top competitors Mike Stephen and Nic Verheul used one new engine, out the box and proved not only to be competitive but durable enough to do the whole season of National and Regional racing without ever opening the engines.
- Neither Stephen nor Verheul had practice engines in the demanding DD2 class in 2019
- Reza Levy has completed 3 competitive years in Micro Max and fitted only one new piston ring!
- Naturally you can have your engine worked on as often as you like but are you getting value?
2. PARITY OF PERFORMANCE
- Rotax and EMR have made it their mission to produce engines that ensure a level playing field
- Over the last 20 years changes to the engines have been aimed only at improving parity, saving you cost and ensuring ease of use.
- Would you prefer to race your own engines knowing from testing that it performs well or paying good money to play the lottery on race day with used engines being shuffled amongst competitors?
- Look at the results of any class in the Rotax Series in 2019 and you will see close racing.
- Junior Max class is always targeted but look at the final race of the Africa Open where the top 4 drivers finished a 20-lap race separated by 0.23 of a second! Is it possible to get closer than this?
3. CLUB, REGIONAL AND NATIONAL RACING
- Rotax has focussed on making karting affordable at all levels and testimony to this is the fact that most Rotax classes run in every region in South Africa.
- Wherever you go your Rotax kart will be able to race club or regional championships so if you move or want a weekend away – take your kart with you and have a ball!
4. STABILITY
- The Rotax Max series has run in South Africa since 1999 and only seen minor changes along the way.
- The series has outlasted the many new classes and alternate series that have been introduced in last two decades.
- Upgrade or downgrade your Rotax – same base engine in different classes
- The stability of the Rotax program guarantees that your class will be there next year and that your engine retains value.
5. FAIRNESS AND CONTROL
- The promoters and organizers of the Rotax series are determined to provide you with a fair opportunity and the detailed regulations are enforced wherever possible.
- There is a popular narrative currently that Rotax promotes cheating – nothing could be further from the truth. We strive to improve and respect the regulations 100%.
- The wheels of justice move slowly but please visit the MSA website and look at the various Courts of Enquiry, appeals etc and rest assured that the proper processes are followed.
6. INTERNATIONAL PARTICIPATION
- Rotax MAX is the only karting formula that has a presence in more than 70 countries globally
- Wherever you go there will be Rotax racing near you – to the exact same rules!
- Participate in highly competitive international events – there are many options ranging from the 4 -Round Euro Trophy, International Trophy in Le Mans, BNL
- Series etc and there are many teams available to give top class support.
7. THE OLYMPICS OF KARTING – THE ROTAX MAX CHALLENGE GRAND FINAL
- This unique Global Series sees thousands of karters compete in their National RMC kart series and winners from each country qualify to participate in the spectacular final event!
- At the RMCGF all the karts, engines, tyres, tools, fuel, lubricants and entry are provided FREE OF CHARGE by Rotax and their distributor network.
- Race against the world’s best in identical karts – driver and set up is everything.
8. PUSH START?
- The crank handle and clutch were invented in the 1800’s followed shortly after by the electric starter!
- Safety first- after a spin out it is far safer to push a button and get going than getting out and trying to push start your kart!
- In the event of an engine failure the clutch allows you to safely coast to a standstill instead of the terrifying experience of the rear wheels locking up and you spinning out of control in the middle of the pack
- Rotax know that an electric start and auto clutch improves the enjoyment and safety
9. MOJO TYRES AND COST SAVING
- The Mojo tyres have proven to be reliable, predictable and economical with unparalleled long life.
- The D5 is our high-performance tyre for the Senior and DD2 classes and these deliver fast times right until the depth holes have disappeared!
- At the RMCGF only one set of tyres is allowed for the practices and one new set for time trials, qualifying heats, pre-final and final races!
- In 2020 in the SARMC only one set of tyres (new or used) for practice and one set of tyres (new or used) from qualifying until the end of the event will be allowed. This will be strictly monitored so no more throwing money at tyres!
10. NEW FUEL AND OIL CONTROL
- Another first from Rotax is XPS Synmax DYE oil. This specially developed high-performance oil has a unique fluorescent dye that lights up when a black light torch is aimed at it.
- The fuel and oil mix can be checked in the tank, fuel lines or filter.
- While this top of the range oil is more expensive than original XPS, this extra cost is offset by mixing fuel at 50:1 (instead of 40:1 so saving 25% on volume of oil) and of course it’s also kinder to the environment.
While there are many more reasons to race Rotax in 2020 we ask you to read the Code of Conduct (from the UK MSA) and hope that you and all people aligned to ethos will join our series.
Happy Maxxing!
